With the season drawing to an end, the LCCC Golden Eagles women’s soccer team is still winning with ease. The team posted shutouts against Gillette College and Sheridan College last week and outscored them a combined 9-0.
The first match against Gillette College on Oct. 11 was a swift 6-0 victory, outshooting Gillette 31-0 with 19 of those shots being on goal.
Five goals were scored in the first half by five different players with Katie Loken scoring first, followed by Taylor Stoeger, Nikita Woods, Naomi Amaro and Abby Morillon scored right before halftime. Morillon scored the lone second-half goal in the 85 minute.
The Golden Eagles took on Sheridan College on Oct. 14, again posting a shutout and extending their shutout streak to 5 games.
The Golden Eagles outshot their opponent 22-4 with 14 of those 22 being on goal. Morillon scored her third goal in two games when she converted on a pass from Stoeger in the 45 minute. In the 48th minute, Stoeger grabbed her second assist when Woods found the back of the net. Woods scored the third goal of the game in the 61st minute on an assist from Elise Atkins.
The Golden Eagles, with a 12-1 record and ranked second in the nation, took on the Colorado University Club team on Oct. 18, posting a 3-2 victory. The team starts the Region IX tourney at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 against Western Nebraska Community College at the LCCC athletic fields.
