Laramie County Community College is teaming up with Puma Steel to host a welding competition Sept. 28 at Puma Steel.
The competition is taking place in coordination with the U.S. structural steel industry’s 10th annual SteelDay. SteelDay is the largest educational and networking function promoted by the structural steel industry.
The welding competition is open to high school juniors and seniors across the region. The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is offering $10,000 in scholarships to the top student welders. The scholarships are to be used at LCCC to obtain a certificate of completion or an associate degree in welding. The final round of the competition will take place at 8 a.m. on Sept. 28. Scholarships will be presented by Gov.Matt Mead at 11 a.m.
