The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team defeated Sheridan College by a score of 3-0 in its first match of the Region IX tournament. The victory over Sheridan put the Golden Eagles in the championship game Saturday afternoon against Western Wyoming Community College, where LCCC lost 1-0.
Against Sheridan, the Golden Eagles’ first goal was scored by Annie Rolf in the sixth minute on an assist by Taylor Stoeger. The second goal was scored by Noemi Amaro in the 33rd minute with an assist by Faith Meredith. The final goal was scored by Darby Whiteley in the 80th minute with an assist by Stoeger.
Ellie Bowman had 4 saves on goal. The Golden Eagles had 15 shots on goal compared to Sheridan’s 9.
In the championship match on Saturday against Western Wyoming, Rolf had six shots on goal and Bowman had four saves in the 1-0 loss. The Golden Eagles outshot Western Wyoming 14-9 in the losing effort.
The Eagles, ranked 17th in the nation last week, will wait to hear about a postseason bid to the national tournament.
