The Region IX Volleyball tournament started Wednesday at Storey Gym, and Laramie County Community College opened play with a bang.
The Golden Eagles faced off against Casper College, who won earlier in the day against Lamar Community College to make it into bracket play. LCCC won the match against the Thunderbirds 3-2.
The Golden Eagles were led by sophomore Avery Nelson who tallied a career-high 21 kills. Also leading the way was Kylie Martin with 17 kills and Kyle Metzler added 20 digs.
“We had a great offensive match as a team but played really poorly on the defensive end, especially at the net,” said coach Austin Albers.
With the win the Golden Eagles move on to the semifinals to take on Northeastern Junior College at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 at Storey Gym.
