The book: “The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote” by Elaine Weiss
Weiss offers a stirring account of the struggle of women to obtain the vote, focusing on the last six weeks of the ratification process for the 19th Amendment. She makes the historical characters who fought for and against women’s suffrage come alive. The ideas of Antis such as Josephine Pearson and Suffs exemplified by Carrie Chapman Catt and Alice Paul are articulated in an entertaining and informative manner. “The Woman’s Hour” is a rousing and inspiring account of the fight for civil rights and provides insight into the long struggle women have faced in their fight for equality in the United States.
