LCCC Men’s soccer to be featured in Region IX tournament

The  Region IX tournament   start this weekend, with the men hosting Central Community College at noon Saturday.

The top eight teams from the conference will be playing in this tournament.

Winners of the first round will then go on to the semi finals, which will be held in Denver on Nov. 2 and the finals taking place the next day.

The LCCC men’s soccer team has been on a tear as of late, winning their last 10 games of the season, including all their conference games. Head Coach Vince Gibson, who has coached at LCCC for 12 years, said that this team is in the top three teams that he has coached during his tenure.

When taking on Central Community College, Gibson mentioned that CCC should never be ignored.

We have played them twice in a region quarter final in the past and lost once and beat them once,” said Gibson. “So we need to be on our best game this Saturday.”

Going into Saturday’s game,   Gibson mentioned that the men’s soccer team bring a lot to the table in that they take a lot of shots and score a lot of goals. However, according to Gibson, they will be focusing more on defense and when they are on the offensive.

If the men’s team wins the Region IX tournament, they will then move onto the district tournament Nov 9. If they win the district tournament, they will then move on to nationals.
